Reverend Daniel Simmons, Sr. N. CHARLESTON was born in Clarendon County, SC, on July 16, 1940. Reverend Simmons was educated in the Public Schools of South Carolina and graduated from Palmetto High School, Mullins. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Allen University, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina, and a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Lutheran Seminary. Reverend Simmons was a fourth generation preacher.
Throughout his career, he was also employed at the Greyhound Bus Company, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Department of Veterans Affairs and the Vocational Rehabilitation Center, from whence he retired. Reverend Simmons served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a member of several organizations, most notably, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Capital City Lodge No. 47.
Reverend Simmons was married to Annie Graham Simmons of Mullins, South Carolina, for 24 years, and he leaves to cherish his precious memory: two children, son, Daniel Lee (Arcelia) Simmons, II, of Newport News, VA, daughter, Rose Ann Simmons, of Chesapeake, VA, one brother, Ezekiel Simmons, of Sumter, South Carolina, a brother-in-law, Troy Graham, of Hampton, VA, four grandchildren, Alana, Daniel, III, Ava, and Anya, of Newport News, VA, and a host of other relatives and close friends.
