Army Specialist David Alan Hess died October 10, 2010 in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol unit. Specialist Hess was assigned to the 101st Airborne, his unit was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
David was a graduate of Parkersburg South High School with the class of 2003. He wrestled and played football for Mineral Wells, Edison and South. He was a Wood County, West Virginia native. He loved hunting, fishing, serving his country, hanging out with friends and spending time with his son, Bryor. He loved being a father to Bryor and a husband to Diane (portraits shown ).
He was born April 28, 1985 in Charleston to Kathy Dowler of Cisco, W.Va. and Jeff Hess of Ruskin, Fla. 25, of Fort Campbell, Ky. In addition to his parents, two sisters and by the love of his life, his wife, Diane Kalle Hess and his son, Bryor Alan Hess, of Fort Campbell, Ky
David was a well-liked, 2003 graduate of Parkersburg South High where he represented his school as a strong contributing member of the wrestling team who demonstrated the heat of battle. But, David also had another side which held a strong appreciation for his faith and religion. Gov. Joe Manchin directed that U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff to honor David who was saluted and honored by many family, friends and West Virginia residents
