Drew had such an optimistic and bright soul. He was a guy with a boyish smile who was well-liked throughout his community of St. Charles, Missouri. He was born on July 5, 1987, one day after the 211th celebration of the United States’ freedom and independence. It seemed only natural that he’d become a patriotic man who loved his country and would do what he could to protect it. He was the son of Brian and Judy Weaver and Diane and Michael Spaulding and the brother of Navy Petty Officer Jeff Weaver and Tyler Spaulding.
Drew and his best friend, Marine Corporal Ryan Hanson, joined the Marines together right after high school and also went through basic training together. Ryan literally was by his side in the beginning and in the very end. Everyone says Drew found the best in every situation, the silver lining in every cloud, and tried to make work fun for himself and the other workers. He had a positive attitude and great sense of humor. In his face was the pride and sense of purpose in being a Marine and that seemed to speak through his eyes. He was an amazing and dedicated Marine, loved and supported by his fellow brothers, and they will continue to remain supportive to his parents and siblings. They will also continue in his brave legacy, to step up and carry on where Drew left off.
We mourn the loss, but cherish the memory, with gratitude for having this awesome young man on Earth with us for 20 years. He is loved and respected, even by those who didn’t know him; a hero to one and all. He gave his life for his friends, his countrymen and countrywomen, and that is one of the noblest callings of all time. We thank you and will always remember you, Lance Corporal Drew William Weaver.
