Lance Corporal Dycus was born on 12 December 1989 in Greenville, Mississippi where he grew-up and attended Riverside High School (Bulldogs). He joined the United States Marine Corps and reported to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, SC, on 15 November 2010. After his graduation from recruit training and follow on MOS training at the School of Infantry-East, Lance Corporal Dycus reported for duty with 2d Battalion, 9th Marines on 7 May 2011, and he was assigned to Fox Company, First Platoon as a SAW Gunner.

He would later deploy in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12-1 with Task Force 2d Battalion, 9th Marines in December 2011. Lance Corporal Dycus lived his life to the fullest and was an inspiration to his family, friends and fellow Marines. Lance Corporal Dycus will be surely missed and we will live our lives in his memory. Tragically Lance Corporal Dycus life ended on 01 February 2012 from wounds he sustained while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Dycus is survived by his mother, Theresa C. Dycus and his father, Randy L. Dycus. His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the NATO Medal – ISAF Afghanistan.
