Poland Polish Army Corporal, 16th Air Assault BN, 6th Air Assault Brigade 9/12/2004, Al Hillah, Iraq
At today’s cemetery in Szczakow, Grzegorz Noska, Corporal of the 6th Brigade of the Assault and Troop Brigade, is buried in Cracow.
Grzegorz died on September 12th in Iraq, north of Al Hillah when unknown perpetrators attacked Polish patrol sappers. During this tragic incident two more Polish soldiers were killed – p. Piotr Mazurek from 15th Bombarded Battalion in Orzysz and Daniel Różyński also from the 6th Brigade.
“Although it is already the fifth funeral of a Polish soldier killed in Iraq, it can not be a social affair.” Every death of our soldier is suffering with equal pain and we do not want to compromise it, “said Archbishop of the Polish Army Slawoj. Leszek Głódź during the Mass in a church filled in Jaworzno.
By decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, Grzegorz Nosek, a senior postman, was awarded the Cross of Merit for Heroism and posthumously promoted to Corporal. Soldier was buried with all military honors. At the funeral ceremonies in attendance, among others were Polish Defense Minister Jerzy Szmajdziński , President Aleksander Kwaśniewski – Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of Poland Dariusz Szymczycha , Silesian Voivodeship Lechosław Jarzębski , Deputy Marshal of the Silesian Province Sergiusz Karpiński and Commander of the Polish Army Edward Pietrzyk .
