Lance Corporal Jacob Walter Beisel of Lackawaxen, PA., joined the Marines in September, 2003, a few months after graduating from Wallenpaupack Area High School. He was just a really fun, fun-loving kid, who got along with everybody. It didn’t matter what clique you were in. He went about his business respectfully and was a solid young man.

He planned to attend college after leaving the military. In the winter, Beisel hunted in the woods surrounding his home. In the summer, he would dive into a river with a spear and resurface with a fish. He was a straight A student, but family members say they never saw him crack a book.

From the time he was a little boy, he wanted to be a Marine. Second best didn’t cut it in Beisel’s eyes.

Beisel, 21, died March 31, 2006 from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was with the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He is survived by his parents Albert and Mary, and a younger sister, Amanda. At the time of his death, he was the 13th local member of the military to be killed in Iraq.
