Jennifer M Parcell

BEL AIR, MD, USA U.S. Marines CPL, D CO, CLR-3, 3D MLG, OKINAWA, JAPAN BARWANAH, IRAQ 02/07/2007

Marine Corporal Jennifer Parcell, from Bel Air, Maryland, followed her older brother Joseph into the Marines. They were best friends, and were even stationed together in Iraq for a short period before their tours of duty separated the two. The noncommissioned officer was responsible for searching Iraqi women at military checkpoints.

Jennifer graduated from high school in 2004 and attended Hartford Community College prior to being assigned to Okinawa. She excelled in art in high school, and was also elected to the senior-executive council. Jen was known as being the “behind-the-scenes” person who could get the job done, but didn’t want too much attention.

Many did not except the petite, smiling, gregarious young lady as a Marine-but she took a military aptitude test her junior year of school and was fully committed to the military. Even then, Corporal Parcell continued to take online classes in Iraq, working towards a college degree.

Jennifer was known for always putting others above herself, and never asking for anything in return. Those that knew her best said “if you knew her, you loved her”. She was a go-getter, and knew what she wanted in life and was doing exactly what she had to do to achieve that. This was well-evidenced through her commitment to the Marines as well as her simultaneous commitment to furthering her education.

Though she was so incredibly driven and determined, she was also easy going and loved yoga. Her MySpace profile noted her love for the TV show “Desperate Housewives.”

Jennifer enjoyed boating, scuba diving, and spending time with loved ones. She also liked music, particularly Jimmy Buffett, Bowling for Soup, and Fall Out Boy.
