Nathan R Wood

Marine Lance Corporal Nathan Wood was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force from Camp Pendleton, California. For his dedicated service he was recently promoted to Lance Corporal. Nathan was killed in action November 9, 2004 during military operations in Fallujah, Iraq.

Nathan was born in Great Falls, Montana. He lived seven years there when he and his parents moved to Kirkland, Montana. He is a 2003 graduate of Juanita High School. During his senior year Nathan joined the Marines with several close friends. He was deployed to Iraq during the summer of 2004.

Nathan enjoyed fishing, camping and fixing up cars with his friends. Nathan can best be described as a respectful, kind-hearted young man. Always looking for adventure, his enthusiasm for life-sometimes expressed mischievously-was an inspiration for his family and friends. Although Nathan’s life was short-lived, he had a positive impact on everyone who knew him.

Nathan’s parents accepted the Purple Heart award on his behalf. In addition to his parents, Nathan is survived by his younger sister Gretchen Wood, his grandparents Bob and Fran Olson of Bothell, and a great-grandmother, Harriet Korst of Great Falls, Montana. He also left behind a large extended family consisting of many aunts, uncles and cousins.
