On 20th June 2008, Second Lieutenant Robert Marczewski, was among a military convoy in Afghanistan when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives at them.
2nd Lieutenant Marczewski was killed by the blast. He served with the Polish 6th Airborne Assault Battalion, based in Gliwice.
