Private Tomasz Jura died in the explosion of a mine trap. The detained owned up to organizing the attack on Polish soldiers. The soldier, 25-year-old Tomasz Jura, was killed in the central city of Diwaniyah when the convoy hit an improvised explosive device Friday night, the ministry said in a statement. Other five persons, suspected of firing mortars at the Echo base on Saturday, were also detained. The men were caught in an immediate chase after the attack.
Capturing the terrorists is an effect of intensified actions of the Polish soldiers and the Iraqi army after the last attacks on Polish convoys and the Multinational Division Central-South base in Diwaniyah.
The commander of the Multinational Division Central-South General Tadeusz Buk stressed that the recent captures could be possible thanks to the quick reaction on the part of the soldiers and the cooperation of the locals.
