Army Specialist Ashley Sietsema died in Kuwait City, Kuwait on November 12, 2007 of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. She was killed when the vehicle she was riding in rolled over as they transported injured soldiers in Kuwait City. She was assigned to the 708th Medical Company, 108th Medical Battalion, 108th Sustainment Brigade, Illinois National Guard, North Riverside, Illinois as her unit participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. As an ambulance driver, she actively worked to save the lives of others.
Twenty-year old Ashley Seitsuma was a 2005 graduate of East Leyden High School, Franklin Park, Illinois. She was known for helping people in need, teaching Bible classes and helping with community service projects. She joined the Illinois National Guard in 2004, attending combat training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston in Texas.
Ashley was also attending Northern Illinois University to obtain a degree in nursing. She served as a Combat Medic assigned to the 708th Medical Company, 108th Medical Battalion, 108th Sustainment Brigade, Illinois National Guard, North Riverside, Illinois. Ashley and her unit deployed in September of 2007 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom She was posthumously promoted to the rank of Specialist. She is survived by her husband of seven months, her mother, maternal grandmother brother, aunts and friends.
